PLEASE: Lower Your Vulnerability
Some days you're a dry forest — one spark and the whole thing goes up. Other days, that exact same spark lands and... nothing. Same spark, completely different result. The difference is usually physical, and here's the good news: it's largely in your control. That's what the PLEASE skills protect.

Hook
Some days you're a dry forest — one spark and the whole thing goes up. Other days, that exact same spark lands and... nothing. Same spark, completely different result. The difference is usually physical, and here's the good news: it's largely in your control. That's what the PLEASE skills protect.
The acronym
PLEASE stands for: treat PhysicaL illness, balanced Eating, avoid mood-Altering substances, balanced Sleep, and Exercise. I know — it's almost insultingly boring. There's no secret in there. But it's boring on purpose, because these five things quietly decide how flammable you are on any given day. They set your baseline. They decide whether you're a dry forest or a wet one when the spark comes.
Why it belongs here
Here's why this is in an emotion regulation module and not just generic health advice. You cannot out-skill a body that's running on no sleep, junk fuel, and a hangover. You can know every technique in this course, and if you've slept four hours and eaten nothing but coffee, you will spike at things that wouldn't normally touch you. PLEASE doesn't regulate emotion directly. It lowers the baseline so that regulation is even possible. It's the ground the other skills stand on.
Pick one lever
Now, don't try to fix all five at once — that's how people quit by Wednesday. Pick the one that's most broken right now. For most people, honestly, it's sleep. Pick that one, and protect it for one week. Just one lever. Because these systems are connected — move sleep, and your eating gets easier, your patience gets longer, your spikes get rarer. One lever, moved and held, changes the whole machine.
Track the link
And start noticing the link, because once you see your own data, PLEASE stops being a lecture and becomes self-defense. Notice that the days you spike easiest are the bad-sleep days, the skipped-meal days, the one-too-many-drinks-last-night days. When you see the pattern in your own life — "oh, I blow up when I'm underslept" — you stop treating sleep as optional. It becomes a wall you defend, because you've watched what happens when it falls.
The rep
Your rep: pick your single weakest PLEASE lever — be honest, you know which one — and protect it for the next seven days. Guard it. And watch whether your spikes get less frequent, whether things that used to set you off just... don't, as much. That's the wave getting smaller before it ever starts. Next lesson — what to do when the emotion is already here and pushing you the wrong way: opposite action.

- Title — Module 3, Lesson 3 — PLEASE: Lower Your Vulnerability
- PLEASE — FIGURE 5.2 — PhysicaL illness · Eating · mood-Altering substances (avoid) · Sleep · Exercise
- Dry vs wet — Same spark, different day = different result. PLEASE decides how flammable you are.
- Why here — You can't out-skill a body on no sleep & junk fuel. PLEASE lowers the baseline.
- One lever — Don't fix all 5. Pick the most broken (usually SLEEP). Protect it one week.
- Track — Notice: bad-sleep days = easy-spike days. Your own data = self-defense.
- Rep — Protect your weakest lever for 7 days. Watch spikes drop.
