How to Read This Book
You already know how to train. That's the part most fitness books get wrong about you. They start at zero, like you've never picked up a barbell or run a gasser, and somewhere around chapter two you put the book down because it's insulting your intelligence.
This book starts somewhere else. It starts with the truth: you were an athlete. You spent years being handed your weights, your sets, your reps, your conditioning, your schedule, and your reason for showing up. Then the team, the coach, the season, and the structure disappeared — and the training stopped with them. Not because you forgot how. Because you lost the structure, the accountability, and the why.
So this book does one thing. It hands all three back.
Here's the method, and I'm going to use it on every single topic in this book: 1. Strip it. What's irreducibly true here? 2. Burn the myth. What false belief is standing in your way? 3. Rebuild from zero. We construct the simplest thing that obeys the law. 4. GO. One concrete action you take today.
The book is built in six parts. Each one pairs a part of your body — a system you train — with a part of your mind — a skill you train. They are taught together, never apart. (Full front matter continues in the manuscript PDF: /pat-ivey-go/assets/GO-Book.pdf.)
