Both the Strength Coach
and the Sport Psychologist

That combination is the whole point — and the reason GO can train the body and the mind as one system.

Dr. Pat Ivey

PhD, Sport Psychology · National Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year · Former NFL

Pat Ivey was born and raised in Detroit, where sports were an escape and where he first fell in love with the thing that still drives his work: the preparation it takes to be great. That focus on process over outcome became the spine of a career spanning the weight room, the lecture hall, and the league.

Over more than two decades as a collegiate strength & conditioning coach — including as a Director of Strength & Conditioning responsible for all varsity sports — Pat built and professionalized programs, mentored a generation of coaches, and pioneered the integration of sport psychology into physical training. He earned his PhD in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology, and was named National Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year.

He is also a former NFL athlete and the host of the Beyond Sets and Reps podcast. With Dr. McGuire and Dr. Selking, he co-developed a model of mental toughness — belief, motivation, preparation, focus, emotional stability, and accountability — that runs underneath everything he teaches.

GO grew directly out of the post-grad fitness manual Pat built for his own athletes — the ones leaving the building, losing the structure he'd built around them for four or five years. The whole point was simple: here's how you keep going when I'm not there to make you. That's still the whole point.

The Philosophy

Mental skills are trainable

Focus, resilience, and composure aren't innate traits you either have or don't. They're skills — trainable, controllable, and chosen, exactly like a squat.

Integration, not addition

Mental conditioning isn't a bolted-on program. It's woven through the training itself — how you prepare, how you reset, how you show up.

Habits over hashtags

Culture and progress are built through consistent behavior over time, not slogans. What you do daily is what you become.
